For AC (mains) power protection:

If the Digital Video Multiplex Recorder (DVMR) will be sharing its AC power circuit with surge-generating equipment such as air conditioners, dehumidifiers, refrigerators, power tools, or any other device that contains a compressor or AC motor, then Dedicated Micros recommends that an AC Line Conditioner be placed in front of the DVMR power supply to protect it from AC power surges. The line conditioner should also be installed if the site is known to experience frequent power outages and/or brown outs. An Uninterruptible Power Supply can also be used for protection if it has embedded line conditioning. The Line Conditioner or UPS must be capable of supplying 600 Watts to the DVMR. We recommend devices from Belkin (UPS 500VA or similar), Tripp Lite or Applied Power Conversion.

For video and telemetry input protection:

If the Digital Video Multiplex Recorder (DVMR) will be installed in a location prone to frequent lightning strikes (Central Florida, Gulf Coast, Southeast, Midwest, Colorado Rockies, or any mountain-top or similarly exposed location) or if the any of the DVMR video/telemetry/c-bus inputs come from outside of the building, then Dedicated Micros recommend that external surge protection products be installed to supplement DM’s built-in surge protection:

1. For equipment that does not have any signal lines going outdoors, we recommend surge protection products from Ditek to our customers. http://ditekcorp.com/products-show.asp?idFam=8. Ditek offers technical support for its products at 800-753-2345.

2. For problem sites (particularly those with outdoor cameras or suffering from repeat problems), we will recommend products from EDCO. http://www.edcosurge.com/products/alarm/alarm.asp. EDCO Technical Support can be reached at 800-648-4076.

  • For video inputs from outdoor cameras: EDCO CX-06-BNCY (1 channel) http://www.edcosurge.com/products/telecom/cx.asp
  • For telemetry inputs from outdoor cameras or C-bus inputs from long or outdoor cable runs: EDCO PC642C-008LC and PCB1B http://www.edcosurge.com/products/telecom/pc642.asp Note: Do not use this surge protector to protect the 8V power wire in the C-bus cable – use it only to protect the data wires. If required, the 8V power wire can be protected with a PHC-015 and PCB1B.
  • EDCO also has additional products available for other applications. Both Diteck and EDCO products are available through ADI.
